I think Luveyes will have a good one...it involves an unusual way to inspect the hull of a boat, a windy day and a sandbar.

Not sure if the day one of the DWC could be beat.  Although, the wind was calm so it might not have been too bad.  The Last Chance during it's first year was a miserable son-of-a-gun with 40 plus mph winds in Beulah country, September fishing and cold chilly fall rain all day long.  Didn't catch a fish.  In fact, I think three teams out of 20 or so caught more than 2 fish.  Can't remember though.  It was just miserable.

My most miserable outing was ice fishing at Sweet Briar Dam.   I had just started setting up and drilling some holes.  All of a sudden some high wind gusts popped up and it started sliding my ice tarp away from my location.

I immediately dropped the auger and jumped on the tarp/hut (door was unzipped, so it made like an umbrella).  The wind got even stronger, yet, and was taking me WITH the tarp/hut across the extremely smooth ice (no snow cover).  My grain shovel was sliding along side the hut on its own azimuth.

With a slim chance of luck my foot (sticking out the doorway) caught one of my outlying holes.  I held my foot in place until I could grasp the sides of the flooring and secure the hut.  It didn't take me long to decide "the hell with this" and drop the poles and pack up the gear.

My clothing was wet from the water on top of the ice.  I thought for sure that I'd be sitting on the east end of the lake, meanwhile my truck would be sitting on the west end just south of the cattails.

After loading up my gear I drove up to I-94 and did a u-turn to come around and park at the scenic view parkade. This was necessary so I could climb down through the tree line and ravine to the ice's edge to recover my grain shovel.

Now...... if it's over 20mph wind, I'll just prefer to sit in my recliner and watch the Outdoor Channel (with fireplace on)!!

van hook at 7 am.  wind came up to 25mph.  broke a rod, then the drift chute broke the steel loop off the front of the boat.  wind came up to 40, waves got BIG, swamped the boat in the bottom of a trough as the next wave rolled over us, ground the prop into the gravel at the bottom of the next trough.  I was weearing a toddler sized life vest.  beached the boat and a wave rolled over the back and filled it with water.  landed the boat and went to Hiddenwood lake to escape the waves.

Hiddenwood lake 11am (still havn't caught a thing) put the boat in the water, park the truck, jump off the dock into the back of the boat into ankle deep water.  buddy forgot to put the plug in.  then the boat wont start. (3rd time water has been knee deep in the boat today) 6 hours of no fish on hiddenwood, someone gets the bright idea to go to audubon.

Lake Audubon 5pm (still no fish) troll around bored for a couple hours decide to head home...boat wont start! half hour after screwing with the motor I decide I'm gonna jump in and tow is to a nearby island before the wind carries us too far from the ramp.  right before I get in the water, my buddy says "Oops!", he forgot to unscrew the breather valve on the gas tank.  unscrews it, motor starts, homeward bound.

Highway 83 8:00 pm (never caught a fish) as I'm laying my head back in the passenger seat gazing aimlessly at my rearview mirror I see chunks of metal tumbling down the shoulder of the road, as I look at my buddy I see a small tire rolling down the median of the highway, then it jumps the approach, back accross both lanes and into a slough.  the wheel came completely off the axle at 70mph.  the axle is ground in half and now we sit on the shoulder waiting for a flatbed.  meanwhile my buddy has to wade through stinky black rotten slough crud to retrieve the tire. then a  storm comes while we're waiting and it hails.  wrecker shows up around 11pm, loads the boat and we head for minot then the wrecker gets struck by lightning and shuts down.  get the wrecker started get to my buddies house and now the boat trailer gets jammed up on the flatbed, so that takes a couple more hours to get loose.  when the wrecker leaves we realize it cracked by buddies brother's newly poured driveway.

got home soaking wet at 3am and we didn't fish together again for over 3 years.

I have the two guys that were with me to back it up, and probably add some stuff I forgot, including his brother who's driveway had to get re-poured.

that day cost around $5,000 with no fish to show for it.

The "worst" outing for me while fishing occured on Devils Lake. I had gone out to fish after work in early August of 2009. It was a picture perfect day, very light breeze of around 5-6mph, temps in the mid 70's.  I made it out to a spot on the main bay and was fishing slips. Walleyes were just biting like crazy, ended up with a limit by 7 that evening.

Navigated the boat back to the Lakewood boat ramp, backed the pickup down into the wonderful smelling late season green waters of Devils Lake. Hopped back into the boat and drove onto the bunk trailer. As I was going up to the bow to hook up the strap to the metal eye, I felt a slight nudge, looked up to see the wheels on my pickup sliding down the ramp on top of the moss/algae that had collected on the concrete ramp.

I was like WTF, jumped out of the boat and into my pickup, the thing was in 4wd, I canned the throttle, could feel all the wheels turning but kept going backwards, all of a sudden the motor shut off and I looked out my window and water was up to the door handles of the Silverado. I crawled out the window and on to the roof, jumped back on to the boat and proceeded to watch the pickup float for about 5 minutes and then sink in about 7 feet of water.

My awesome night of fishing had just done a total 180 on me.

I know that feeling Walleye, u r not alone. Ok, well, I don't really know that feeling but I have come close to that. I just never lost my truck.
When I have a bad day, or think i have had a bad day, I go to youtube and watch fishing bloopers. Always cheers me up. Besides any day you can get off the water still alive, it was still better than working.
