Unfitting demise of an Elk herd, here's how the MN DNR does it

Here's a link to a story about a small herd of wild elk in NW Minnesota that will be eliminated by USDA sharpshooters because of the inability of landowners and the MN DNR to reach any sort of an agreement on management of the herd. The area the elk live in is just out of the RRV so it's not flat farmland by any means, but forested, brushy timberland for the most part. Not a huge herd either, if memory serves me correctly the herd numbers about 40 animals. Anyone who is critical of the way ND G&F manages our wildlife should look at how it's done in other states, ND is heads and shoulders above MN.

More wolves would help to control the Elk numbers, they don't eat crops, but do munch on other wildlife, livestock, and school teachers.

Maybe sharpshooters would be the best way to get rid of the Elk.

Wouldnt fences have kept them out of the farmers feed? Sounds like the DNR got sick of whining and decided to permanently resolve the issue.

Who do you think would pay for these fences?  It would take 8 foot fence to keep out the Elk.

the MN DNR is retarded to say the least when it comes to big game management. Mr. Lou has not a clue. i think my 5yr old cousin could do better than that shmuck.

one more thing, its funny how they have no problem forking out 5 deer tags a person but only 6 elk tags a year(i think thats how many). just rediculous.

Doesn't surprise me, it is Minnesota. Too bad hunters couldn't kill them.
