The North Dakota Stockmen's Association is offering a $5,000 reward for information in shootings of horses and cows in Griggs County, ND pastures over the past month.

NDSA also has an investigator helping Griggs County solve the case.

Sheriff Bob Hook says someone has been shooting livestock in his county.

Hook says the latest targets were four horses at a farm east of Hannaford. He says all four animals died of head shots. They were found last Thursday afternoon.

About a week and a half ago three young cows were shot and killed in a pasture about half a mile from where the horses were shot.

Hook says a .22-caliber gun was used in both cases, and he thinks they`re related.

Authorities believe all the cases are connected. if you have information, call either the Stockmen's Association at 701-223 2522, or the Griggs County Sheriff at 701-797-2202.

If the same person owned all these animals, my money says this wasnt done to "kill farm animals". Find out who has a beef with the owner and youll find the shooter.

Lycan,  Your probably right.  It's a shame people have to stoop to this for fun, or revenge.  Everyone keep your ears open.  Usually its the bragging that gets them caught.

The old school rules should apply once in awhile.
In this case, if they are found guilty just hang them like they would a horse thief.

It was not the same owner. One guys horses and another guys cows but were right across the road from each other. Pretty crappy deal anyway.

I would be willing to wager a few dollars that the common denominator is alcohol and young age. Nothing more, nothing less. Driving around on a gravel road all drunked up with a gun in the vehicle, see something to shoot and the rest is history.

And before anyone gets their panties all bunched up the crack of their ass, I'm a defender of youth more times than not, and I'm not saying it was youth, just saying I'd bet a couple bucks when they find the perpetrator they will be under the age of 30.

Oh, and the alcohol is a given.

Can u relate to such behavior, Bowhuntin, or why would you suggest such a thing?  In my youth I have drove countless gravel roads all drunked up (not proud of it, I might add) and NEVER been compelled to shoot at someone's livestock, only a gopher or a jackrabbit possibly. Although I might be in a special category because I grew up raising livestock and always appreciated them for  the sacrifice they made to feed our selfish selves. While I believe that drunkenness often leads to especially stupid behavior, it takes a very IDIOTIC/BRAINLESS  individual to act so selfishly as to shoot a man's livestock in the head!   This has happened more times than alot of you know- we just need to selectively deal with these TOOLS and hope they go away!  Kudos to the Stockmans Association for trying to find the SOB's and prosecute them!

I think I got it solved.  Find out the last names of the livestock owners.  I got a hunch if they live accross the road from eachother that one's last name is Hatfield and the other's is McCoy.  The second one was a revenge killing upon suspicion.

You guys think I nailed it?  I think I freekin nailed it!

You give humanity too much credit. Every day I see enough brainles idiots around to believe that Bowhuntin is probably right. Throw some alcohol in a majority of them and they amazingly get even dumber. Just because you and I didn't get loaded, grab the guns and the truck and shoot horses and cattle (or deer, pronghorn, moose, cars, signs, houses, etc...if you have read the newspaper over the past few months) for kicks doesn't mean there aren't plenty of dipshits out there who think it's a great idea.

Most likely drunk kids on a joyride, although plenty of dumbass adults out there who would do the same. Hell, some of them probably passed the tradition on to their kids in the first place. I would definitely say alcohol was involved, but not to blame. Some people are just this fuggin stupid and disrespectful. One can only  hope they accidentally shoot their own foot someday or the owner of the livestock happens to catch them in the act...

Dirty, your probably right, alot of ignorant people out there- glad I don't know too many.  I just don't feel like the booze is the primary contributing factor here (as you commented), mostly genetic factors.........that put them over the edge where most people would halt and think of the consequences.    Whatever happened to shooting at road signs? Oh yeah, I still see that going on too.  Bowhuntin, no harm intended.

You can speculate all you want. But in the end you just don't know for sure till they catch them in the act. There's just too many variables.

Like others have stated, I know my road gets littered with beer cans every day. Not over-exaggerating either. Some are from youngin's, some are from the old timers, some are from town, some live nearby.
