Report Details
The perch fishing remains very very active the past week.We have seen a lot of boating activity, especially over the
weekend, with many anglers seeking out the perch bite.
In the previous reports we shared that the bite was mostly
a trolling one...pulling a bottom bouncer/spinner/crawler or
a shad rap in 10-11 feet or deeper water. The past two
weekends anglers have been able to anchor up on some of
the traditional perch spots and get their catch as well.
Yes, there have been limits of perch brought in and the average
size remains about 10 inches or better. Bait of choice varies with
the fishermen...many are still using crawlers or pieces of crawlers,
some are switched to minnows claiming a larger fish and some
have even tried using spikes or wax worms. Anglers just have
to move around to find the bite...it is not agressive, these perch
are light biters, but it is consistent enough to keep you on your spot.
The "spot" has changed...in July the perch seemed to be around
the islands area up to the Twin Silos....this past weekend the
anglers concentrated on the Windmill Reef area from the Rocky
Ledge public access all the way up to Shady Beach. However,
there have been many, many reports of dock fishermen getting
10-15 perch off their docks in the evening hours too!
So, if perch is what you are seeking...do not delay! This is the
time to get to Big Stone Lake and set the hook on an excellent
bite!
